As an environmental science and sustainability student, you can look forward to plenty of hands-on experience in your classes. Problem solving for local, regional and global environmental issues, such as offshore oil spills, sea-level rise and natural resource management, lets you apply what you've learned.

You’ll also have opportunity to build experience by volunteering in faculty research labs, working on tasks such as measuring water or soil quality, reviewing permit applications to determine the environmental impacts of new development projects or studying the impacts of a contaminant on the environment.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ has extensive laboratories and research facilities for applied research in environmental science and sustainability, such as the F.W. Olin Physical Sciences Center, a 70,000-square-foot facility that houses faculty laboratories and cutting-edge instrumentation.

High-tech marine and environmental systems laboratories provide instrumentation that can be used for core-boring and sediment analysis, beach surveying, the measurement and analysis of water quality, the processes of fouling by marine organisms and saltwater corrosion and more.

You’ll also have access to the L3Harris Student Design Center, a one-of-a-kind, 12,000-square-foot building featuring remarkable equipment and resources. It’s a focus of activity for student research and design projects—and it's available for personal projects, as well.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ is the perfect place for an environmental science and sustainability degree. Our beautiful 130-acre campus is located minutes from the Indian River Lagoon, a highly biodiverse estuary, and the Ralph S. Evinrude Marine Operations Center ensures students and faculty have direct access.

We’re just over the causeway from the Atlantic Ocean, with its 72 miles of beautiful beaches, and it's a short trip to the Florida Keys or the Everglades National Park, a World Heritage Site and the largest designated subtropical wilderness reserve in North America.  

The Indian River Lagoon, Atlantic Ocean, protected lands and local waterways, water treatment facilities and air pollution monitoring sites offer abundant opportunities for the fieldwork that is a key part of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ experience.

Located in the heart of Florida’s Space Coast with NASA-Kennedy Space Center just to our north, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ is surrounded by one of the nation’s largest high-tech workforces. This dynamic environment provides abundant internship and career opportunities.

At the same time, Florida’s diverse ecosystems and 1,350 miles of coastline create unique opportunities in environmental science and sustainability. Students gain real-world experience through internships with local, state and national agencies, environmental consulting firms and private research organizations, preparing them for impactful careers.
