Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is home to the first school of behavior analysis, recognized worldwide for its role in shaping the field through pioneering research and training. Here, you’ll work closely with faculty in a collaborative, research-focused environment that supports doctoral study across clinical, organizational and conceptual areas of behavior analysis

At Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», you’ll learn in an environment built on the principles of behavior analysis itself, with high standards, accountability and a commitment to growth.

The program is designed to prepare you to advance the science of behavior through research and apply it to meaningful, real-world challenges.

As the first school of behavior analysis, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» has set the model for programs worldwide, combining rigorous research training with the expertise of faculty recognized for both scholarship and applied work.

Doctoral students work closely with faculty mentors throughout their training, developing individualized research agendas and receiving guidance across all stages of the doctoral process.

Faculty provide support in research design, data analysis, scholarly writing and professional development in both academic and applied settings.

Doctoral students have access to a range of applied research settings across the program. This includes opportunities to conduct research in clinical, organizational, educational and community environments, depending on student interests and faculty collaboration.

One option for applied work is the on-campus , where students may engage in research and supervision involving assessment and intervention for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities.

Students may also pursue research in areas such as staff training, systems-level interventions, health and safety, and organizational behavior management.

Academic units at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» may offer graduate student assistantships to full-time, degree-seeking graduate students on a competitive basis.

Teaching Assistants (TAs) support faculty in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including tasks such as grading, tutoring and conducting office hours. First-time TAs attend a teaching assistant seminar to prepare for their responsibilities.

Research Assistants (RAs) collaborate with faculty on projects funded by government agencies, private sponsors and university research funds.

For current information about assistantships, please contact the School of Behavior Analysis.

Applicants should have completed, or be close to completing, a master's degree in behavior analysis or a closely related field with an emphasis in behavior analysis. Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®) credential holders are also encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements
Refer to graduate admissions for full details on required materials. Submit all application materials by January 15. Applications received after this date may be considered on a space-available basis.

How Applications Are Evaluated
Initial review considers academic preparation, including degree and/or board certification, graduate GPA and GRE scores. The admissions committee then evaluates each applicant's potential for scholarship and leadership in behavior analysis, based on clinical and research experience, the overall application package and participation in applicant interviews.

Based on prior coursework and experience, some students may be required to complete additional coursework or practical training to strengthen preparation and ensure alignment with program and board certification expectations.

The mission of our Ph.D. in behavior analysis is to produce competent behavior analytic researchers, instructors and practitioners who are solidly grounded in basic principles derived from the experimental analysis of behavior. We expect graduates of our doctoral program to approach the world from a radical behaviorist perspective, contribute to behavioral research, inform their practice with current research findings, obtain academic and professional positions and effectively manage behavior analysts under their supervision.

Careers in Behavior Analysis

Behavior analysis Ph.D. graduates pursue a wide range of careers across applied, academic and organizational settings. While many are known for work in autism treatment and developmental disabilities, alumni also work in schools, clinics, residential programs, private practice and community-based services around the world.

Graduates have secured university faculty positions, post-doctoral fellowships and leadership roles such as consultants and program directors. Others apply behavior analysis in business and industry, healthcare, communication disorders, animal behavior and training and special education.
