Anand Balu Nellippallil is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering at 麻豆传媒映画. Anand received his B.Tech degree in Production Engineering from the University of Calicut, India in 2012 and M.Tech degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, India in 2014. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering working with Professors Farrokh Mistree and Janet K. Allen in the Systems Realization Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in 2018. After his Ph.D., he worked as a Research Engineer II at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), Mississippi State University. Anand’s research focuses on decision-centric computational design of complex engineered systems involving materials, products, and manufacturing processes, with emphasis on decision support, data-driven design, uncertainty management, and design for integrated computational materials engineering (ICME). His current research is supported by two National Science Foundation (NSF) grants. He has also secured industry funding for sponsored projects and serves as Co-PI on a Kern Family Foundation grant. In addition to several journal and conference publications, he has co-authored two books (research monographs) on systems-based engineering design and decision-making, focusing on the integrated design of materials, products, and manufacturing processes. He is passionate about a career in academia focused on creating, transmitting, and sharing knowledge, but, more importantly, on empowering students to develop the ability to learn how to learn and to rise to their full potential. Anand directs the Systems Realization Laboratory @ FIT ().
Anand is the recipient of the 2023 Young Engineer Award (YEA) from the Computers & Information in Engineering (CIE) Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Initiation (ERI) Award in 2023. Anand received the 2018 Provost’s Ph.D. Dissertation Prize for outstanding dissertation in science and engineering at the University of Oklahoma (OU). He also received the Gallogly College of Engineering Dissertation Excellence Award at OU in 2018. He was awarded the Institute Silver Medal for best academic performance by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar in 2014 and the University First Rank Medal by the University of Calicut in 2012.
