Cook, Cudmore, Gutman, Heck, W. Helmstetter, Lail, Marcinkowski, Patton, Perdigao, Polson, Rusovici, Shaw, Shearer, Tankersly, Winkelmann; non-voting attendees: Dr. Richard Baney of the Board of Trustees; Dr. Nasri Nesnas, Department of Chemistry President Polson called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. and asked for a motion to approve the last meetings minutes. A motion was made and seconded, and the vote to approve was unanimous. Dr. Polson deferred making his report to having Mr. Andy Stanfield, of Instructional Technology, speak on the prospect of students doing their course evaluations online. Mr. Stanfield said he thought going online with these evaluations would improve the opportunity for better feedback and as well save time. He pointed out that the current use of Scantron forms results in long times for getting feedback to instructors; with online evaluation, not only would the comments get to instructors sooner, but students would probably include more lengthy ones, since its easier for them to type than write in longhand. The question of anonymity arose, with the possibility of students being less than candid owing to fear of being tracked. As well, the issue of information from students being seen outside the department of the evaluated faculty was raised. Mr. Stanfield discounted both these, as Institutional Research would insure security. Mr. Stanfield stated that there is currently no timeline in place for implementing online student evaluations. Pres. Polson asked Senator Winkelmann of the Academic Policies Committee to compose a Sense of the Senate statement on this issue. Dr. Winkelmann asked that facultys views concerning this be made known to him via email. Pres. Polson thanked Mr. Stanfield for his presentation, and then gave the Presidents Report. He said that the construction in the parking lot between the Aquatic Center and the Olin Quad has been postponed until either Christmas break or next summer. He went on to say that there are options currently being discussed regarding the withdrawal for prerequisite failure, and said he thought this matter will be resolved very soon. At the Presidents Task Force meeting it was stated that enrollment looks terrific. The President will announce at the State of the University address, Wednesday, October 12th at 2:30 p.m. in Gleason Auditorium, the status of restoring matching funds to our retirement contributions; Dr. Polson said unequivocally that the restoration will not be retroactive. He concluded his remarks with reporting that, in discussions with Pres. Catanese and COO McCay, it appears likely that establishment of the nine-month/twelve-pay option can be accomplished. To that end, he said he would propose a Sense of the Senate statement under New Business. Committee Reports The Academic Policies Committee will be preparing a Sense of the Senate statement on online student evaluations of faculty. Sen. Brenner, head of the Administrative Policies Committee, has been working on the Faculty Load Forms. The link below is the Chemical Engineering departments form, which is an evolved version from one that Drs. Nelson, Fronk and others developed long ago. Unlike the prior one, there are no points involved. Prof. Manolis Tomadakis likes this form, as, said Sen. Brenner, he himself does. One very positive aspect of this form is that the promotions guidelines are at the end of the document, and the faculty member is forced to look at them. The link is: HYPERLINK "http://my.fit.edu/~jbrenner/DetailedFacultyLoadReporttomadakis.doc" \t "_blank" http://my.fit.edu/~jbrenner/DetailedFacultyLoadReporttomadakis.doc The second link (below) is a modified version of the above form. It is slightly more complicated, but with good reason, Sen. Brenner said; in it he hopes to get a) a direct copy-and-paste into a promotions dossier for everyone; and b) an agreement between a faculty member, his or her department head, and his or her dean, regarding the appropriate direc-tion that the faculty member should be pursuing in the next semester, with the goal of getting promoted. The link is: HYPERLINK "http://my.fit.edu/~jbrenner/DetailedFacultyLoadReportTemplate.doc" \t "_blank" http://my.fit.edu/~jbrenner/DetailedFacultyLoadReportTemplate.doc Sen. Brenner said that there has been some concern about some promotions guidelines being too vague. A big portion of comments alleging this have come over the last several years regarding the College of Engineering's promotions guidelines in particular. He added that he would like faculty to examine the aforementioned links, and hopes they provide email comments. Shortly he will initiate meetings with the Administrative Policies Committee and with Drs. McCay and Nelson regarding your and their feedback. There was no Faculty Excellence Committee report, no Faculty Senate Scholarship report, and no Welfare Committee report. Old Business Pres. Polson assigned homework to the senators for next session: the reading and consideration of the Policy on Appointments, Sections 2.3 through 2.6, of the Faculty Handbook, which can be found online. For the meeting in December, Sections 2.7 through 2.9 concerning Promotion Procedures will be scrutinized. New Business After emending the wording of his proposed Sense of the Senate statement, Dr. Polson read it and asked for a vote. The statement was: The Faculty Senate recommends the establishment of an option allowing faculty the choice of their nine- month salary to be paid over twelve months, i.e. nine month/twenty-six pay periods. It was emphasized that it would be up to an individual faculty member to opt for either the usual nine-month pay period or the twelve-month pay period. The Sense of the Senate statement was approved unanimously. Discussion Sen. Winkelmann announced that he has been asked to sit on the hiring committee for an associate director of Informational Technology, and asked that those with input on this should email him. As there was no further discussion, by unanimous vote the meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Bob Shearer, Secretary PAGE PAGE 2 "'()*+=FHPR[yj^RF:.hlCJOJQJaJh7CJOJQJaJh{CJOJQJaJhuCJOJQJaJhAkCJOJQJaJhrg*hijCJOJQJaJhrg*hijCJOJQJ\aJhOheCJOJQJ\aJhijCJOJQJ\aJh1K;CJOJQJ\aJh:?CJOJQJ\aJ"h7h7CJH*OJQJ\aJh*CJOJQJ\aJh?c h?c 5CJOJQJaJhOhij5CJOJQJaJ)*+f g ' ( '(&C\]^pq gdSR`gdSR `gd@;p`gd@;p$a$gd?c $a$gdij [`blost~ ymaUIh=CJOJQJaJhlCJOJQJaJhXPCJOJQJaJh2CJOJQJaJhg8CJOJQJaJhijCJOJQJaJhQ1CJOJQJaJh7CJOJQJaJh{CJOJQJaJh7CJOJQJaJhPHCJOJQJaJhAkCJOJQJaJhrg*hijCJOJQJaJhVMCJOJQJaJhFG,CJOJQJaJ : e f g q w % & ' ( 3 j k ĸ|teYMAMAhoCJOJQJaJh=CJOJQJaJhyCJOJQJaJhBVhCJOJQJaJhOJQJh^hCJOJQJaJh^h|#CJOJQJaJh^h7CJOJQJaJh^h/e5CJOJQJaJh/e5CJOJQJaJhrCJOJQJaJh{CJOJQJaJh7CJOJQJaJhPHCJOJQJaJh?U>CJOJQJaJ g p t 'j^oqJj%ܸииĸܸРskckckhj~OJQJhSROJQJhSR>*CJOJQJaJhhSR>*CJOJQJaJhMhSRCJH*OJQJaJhSRCJOJQJaJhj~CJOJQJaJh2"CJOJQJaJh0CJOJQJaJhMCJOJQJaJh?U>CJOJQJaJh=CJOJQJaJh{CJOJQJaJ$q$%HKKKLgd( :gdU2`gdU2gdSR`gdSR `gdSR%& #`}~ ./KLSTt롏sseh(NB*OJQJ^Jphh=B*OJQJ^JphhSRB*OJQJ^Jph#hSRB*CJOJQJ^JaJph!hhSRB*OJQJ^JphhhSR0JOJQJ^J3jhhSR>*B*OJQJU^JphhSR>*B*OJQJ^Jph'jhSR>*B*OJQJU^Jph%HIK'(JLm ߔߔߔߔ߆seeWeWeeh(NB*OJQJ^Jphh( :B*OJQJ^Jph$hU2hU2>*B*OJQJ^JphhU2B*OJQJ^Jph!hU2hSRB*OJQJ^Jph#hSRB*CJOJQJ^JaJphhhSR0JOJQJ^J0j!hhSRB*OJQJU^JphhSRB*OJQJ^Jph$jhSRB*OJQJU^Jphgi=>@JL 2 D ^ i ϼϮϮn]L!h( :h( :B*OJQJ^Jph!h( :h B*OJQJ^Jph!h h B*OJQJ^JphhS^B*OJQJ^Jphh B*OJQJ^Jph$h h >*B*OJQJ^Jphh B*OJQJ^Jph$h( :h( :6B*OJQJ^Jphh( :B*OJQJ^Jphh( :>*B*OJQJ^Jph$h( :h( :>*B*OJQJ^JphJhi>?@KL k l gd `gd `gd( :`gd( : `gdqgd--o`gd6@Kgd| `gd`gd@;p `gdgdU2`gdU2`gd( :gd( : Źwjw]M>2hh >*OJQJhBVh^CJOJQJaJh--oh--o>*CJOJQJaJh--o>*CJOJQJaJh6@K>*CJOJQJaJh6@Kh6@KCJOJQJaJh6@KCJOJQJaJhhMCJOJQJaJhMCJOJQJaJh| CJOJQJaJh@;pCJOJQJaJh|h|CJOJQJaJh|CJOJQJaJ!hU2hU2B*OJQJ^JphhU2B*OJQJ^Jph º~x~xt~x~i~xth1 0JmHnHuh[ h[0Jjh[0JUh.jh.Uh!wh!wOJQJh!wOJQJh6H,OJQJhyhijOJQJh|#OJQJhrg*heCJOJQJaJhT(ACJOJQJaJhQOJQJhYOJQJhhROJQJhqh OJQJ! &`#$`gd!wgd!wgd6H,gdij`gdij`gdr `gd!w/ 01h/ =!"#$% !DyK _blankyK http://my.fit.edu/~jbrenner/DetailedFacultyLoadReporttomadakis.docyX;H,]ą'cDyK _blankyK http://my.fit.edu/~jbrenner/DetailedFacultyLoadReportTemplate.docyX;H,]ą'c@@@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH N@N Heading 1$$@&a$>*B*OJQJphDA@D Default Paragraph FontViV Table Normal :V 44 la (k(No List e@ HTML Preformatted7 2( Px 4 #\'*.25@9!B*CJOJPJQJ^JaJph6U@6 Hyperlink >*B*ph4 @4 Footer !.)@!.
