A motion was made and seconded, and the vote to approve was unanimous. Secretary Shearer adds here that the Award for Lifetime Achievement in Service to 鶹ýӳ that was given Dr. Michael Babich last session was done so by unanimous vote of the Senate. Presidents Report Dr. Arrasmith stated that hed had lunch with Pres. Catanese and Chief Operating Officer McCay, and had discussed the resolution on pro-rating summer pay proposed at the last Senate meeting (and appearing below under Old Business). Dr. McCay said that if the faculty really wants this hell support it. With regard to acceptance of points in the Senates parking resolu-tion, Pres. Arrasmith reported that having parking spaces narrowed and restriped was vetoed by the City of Melbourne. As well, some faculty members with trucks had expressed their concern about having smaller parking spaces. Touching on the issue of an attendance policy for undergraduates, Dr. Arrasmith recalled that in our discussion of this it was left at the idea that such a policy should be up to individual faculty members. Senator Tenalis committee, Academic Policies, will be discussing this. Pres. Arrasmith stated that there have been complaints about fading print on touch-technology such as screens and computer work stations. Buildings with these problems include Link, Crawford, and Life Sciences; as well there have been problems in Chemistry and Physics. Sen. Marcinkowski noted that there are other technological problems in other buildings also. It was reported that IT (Instructional Technology) has been informed of this matter, but has not responded as yet. Committee Reports As stated above, the Academic Policies Committee is still looking into an undergraduate attendance policy. There was no Administrative Policies Committee report. Sen. Brown reported that the business of the Faculty Excellence Committee has been concluded. Sen. Rusovici, head of the Faculty Senate Scholarship Committee, stated that the certificates for the two awardees of our stipend have been printed, and will be presented to them. There was no Welfare Committee report, owing largely to there not being a Welfare Committee at the moment. Old Business Pres. Arrasmith read the following resolution on pro-rated summer pay, with copies distributed to senators: WHEREAS the protocols for having summer classesand the pay to instructors teaching them vary, with classes often cancelled for lacking what has in many cases become the standard number of undergraduate students eight; and WHEREAS this standard number discourages students from taking summer courses for fear that they will not be able to pursue their education in that term, and as well discourages faculty from planning to teach in the summer, not knowing if they will be employed; and WHEREAS this standard-number problem can be solved by allowing a minimumof two students in order for the course to take place, and that the instructor's pay for five or fewer graduate students, and eight or fewer undergraduate students can be pro-rated proportionally e.g. for three graduate students the instructor is paid 3/5 of what an enrollment of five (full pay) would pay, and for four undergraduate students the instructor is paid half of full pay; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that a uniform protocol of pro-rated pay for summer classes be adopted across campus, with the allowance that the respective college deans can alter this arrangement based onunusual circumstances. The question arose as to whether an instructor can cancel a class if he or she decides not to teach it. The general consensus was that this would be a matter between the instructor and the department head or, in some cases, the Dean. Sen. Perdigao suggested that a better word for unusual in the last line of the resolution would be special. Sen. Marcinkowski emphasized that faculty members should have some say in whether or not he or she will be teaching a summer course. Accordingly, the resolution was changed to include in consultation with the faculty just after deans in the next-to-the-bottom line. Both changes were approved, and the reso-lution now read: WHEREAS the protocols for having summer classesand the pay to instructors teaching them vary, with classes often cancelled for lacking what has in many cases become the standard number of undergraduate students eight; and WHEREAS this standard number discourages students from taking summer courses for fear that they will not be able to pursue their education in that term, and as well discourages faculty from planning to teach in the summer, not knowing if they will be employed; and WHEREAS this standard-number problem can be solved by allowing a minimumof two students in order for the course to take place, and that the instructor's pay for five or fewer graduate students, and eight or fewer undergraduate students can be pro-rated proportionally e.g. for three graduate students the instructor is paid 3/5 of what an enrollment of five (full pay) would pay, and for four undergraduate students the instructor is paid half of full pay; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that a uniform protocol of pro-rated pay for summer classes be adopted across campus, with the allowance that the respective college deans, in consultation with the faculty, can alter this arrangement based onspecial circumstances. Since this was the first reading of the resolution, and Senate rules call for a resolution to be read first in one Senate session and then voted on in the next session, the only way to proceed in order to prepare a change in this coming summers pay arrangement was to take a vote on suspending that rule; this was proposed and passed with unanimous ayes and one abstention. With that rule suspended, a vote on the resolution itself, in the version above, was taken. The resolution passed with a vote of unani-mous ayes and one abstention. In other Old Business, Sen. Marcinkowski urged senators to gather input on the QEP-2 plan (Quality Enhancement Plan, 2nd round, due January 2015). Sec. Shearer said he would email to all senators the form for input so they can distribute it to their constituents. Dr. Marcinkowski pointed out how important getting this information is to improving the plan. New Business Sen. Van Woesik took the chair as President of the Senate as Dr. Arrasmith received a well-deserved round of applause for his tenure as president. Discussion Sen. Lail called attention to the fact that online end-of-term faculty evaluations had not come about, and that were still using the paper forms. The snag seems to have been that, so far, there is no way to prevent a student from filing both kind of forms in evaluating an instruc-tor in one term. This issue was clarified in an email to faculty from Eric Kledzik on the 10th of this month. Sen. Kozaitis handed out the Librarys Faculty Evaluation Proce-dures as a possible model for other departments. Pres. Van Woesik suggested senators look at this document for discussion when the Senate reconvenes in August. Another topic that was raised by several senators was load distribu-tion with regard to teaching and research; this topic was also tabled for August. By unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 4:24 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Bob Shearer, Secretary PAGE PAGE 3 &'(EMOX]^gm) * + 0 1 °~s~s~s~s~s~s~s~kc[ScKhfOJQJhOJQJh=OJQJhtjOJQJh 2OJQJhmUh;0:OJQJh;0:OJQJhrg*h/CJOJQJ\aJhMCJOJQJ\aJh61CJOJQJ\aJ"h61h61CJH*OJQJ\aJh[CJOJQJ\aJh?c hM5CJOJQJaJhOhM5CJOJQJaJh8hM5CJOJQJaJ'(s t u 8`gd/ 8gd>4 8`gdg\ 8gdg\ 8`gd[`gd0N`gd;0:$a$gd/$a$gd{y&&1 s t u , 3 R U V s 3կէ՟էݗէ՗ՏՏxph#,[OJQJh>4h>4>*OJQJhJThJTOJQJh>4OJQJh|OJQJhJTOJQJhvOJQJhItOJQJhg\>*OJQJh[>*OJQJhg\hg\>*OJQJhg\OJQJhXLOJQJh[OJQJhYOJQJhrhfOJQJ)WDE0B U" 8`gd8u| 8gd8u| 8`gd/HawxVWceCE#$%-ϽϽϽϽϦϦϽϽϽϽ||nnϽϽϽhJTB*OJQJ^JphhOB*OJQJ^JphhItB*OJQJ^Jphh\B*OJQJ^Jph,hh\>*B*CJOJQJ^JaJph#h\B*CJOJQJ^JaJph)hh\B*CJOJQJ^JaJphh\OJQJh8u|h8u|>*OJQJh8u|OJQJ+-./679:=i/58J . 1 ددwhJTB*OJQJ^Jphh;ejB*OJQJ^JphhOB*OJQJ^JphhlB*OJQJ^Jph#hlB*CJOJQJ^JaJph,hh\>*B*CJOJQJ^JaJph)hh\B*CJOJQJ^JaJph#h\B*CJOJQJ^JaJph( c!e!T"U"W"c"e"j"k""""""##[#\##### $!$1$~$$$$$r%&w&x&y&z&¶¥’ʭކ¥~’ogjh2Uh\hYCJOJQJaJhfvOJQJhlhlH*OJQJhChCOJQJhOOJQJh;ejOJQJhC>*OJQJhChC>*OJQJhCOJQJhlOJQJhlhlH*OJQJhlOJQJh\OJQJ!hlhlB*OJQJ^Jph&U"V"W"d"e""""##$$r%& &F&G&_&`&x&y&{& 8`gd/ 8`gdfv 8gdl 8`gdC 8gdC 8`gd8u|{&|&~&&&&&&&&&&&&&& 8`gd/ &`#$gd+Zz&|&}&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&h\hYCJOJQJaJhIt0JmHnHuhl hl0Jjhl0JUjh2Uh25 01h:p,v/ =!"#$% "@@@ MNormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH f@f M Heading 3$<1$@&%5CJOJQJ\aJhmHsHtHf@f M Heading 4$<1$@&%5CJOJQJ\aJhmHsHtHDA@D Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k(No Liste@ MHTML Preformatted7 2( Px 4 #\'*.25@9!B*CJOJPJQJ^JaJph6U@6 M Hyperlink >*B*ph:>@: MTitle$a$5OJQJ\VC@"V MBody Text Indent `B*OJQJphB^@2B M Normal (Web)dd[$\$4 @B4 ,vFooter !.)@Q. ,v Page NumberPObP ls No Spacing CJOJQJ_HaJmH sH tH ^Or^ 78tList Paragraphd^m$CJOJQJaJ>'> qComment ReferenceCJ44 q Comment TextHH q Balloon TextCJOJQJ^JaJ6O6 0]rwrro47>*S*Y(ph@&O& 0]nowrap16O6 0]rwrro57>*S*Y(ph@ROR Ptwvsn4/67>*CJOJQJS*Y(]^JaJo(phFV@F ^FollowedHyperlink >*B* ph(O( 6vdspncelf3*O* u highlight>'(stuW DE0BUVWder FG_`xy{|~0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000@0I00@0I00@0I00@0I00@0@0@0@0@0@0I00(BUr000K00K0 I0I0I00I00K00I00̨K00K0000 $$$'1 - z&&U"{&&& '!!8@0( B S ?dYHYHggpp8*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsCity9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsplace l(,3#$T[\ !1rxyy{{||~yy{{||~33(,3UUVs #%LL//58JJ .1Tjk[\ !1rFvxyy{{||~$yy{{||~&QE~rW d ({ 40*Ƭl28W&:U\f1r$^D>)h>* ({y+}.!)r70uZ7;XJ8>{zG1CL kt5GX ` NtP ({3~SnuWms:XBoj6[yX[9b]"HbhVGSdDtrdBdYf Mg-wi({l|eP?m k)P?mZ7; ` Nj6[b]3~S\QEtP>*d GSdt5G"Hbkgm|uWnjvy+rdG1C* )r70&&pV*BE~Ȉh}&`/f3: 䎞ac&k΄4lXV8ؐZVSzq ,~vv?J$&84(S5 'Αm0xwְpd"mXʶ*M d|—2$}~@tb RԒtHb4|T!2.4U{V & 옸mf=URIjCSI {isld}i(nQ hq {iu d}i(n-H8,] ) Y|eJBy%d}i("mHWov+ ) ^P: I\J^YK-9v.VP:NIDYKv8gzsLZrhAN^]Pi):as@>D >Kv2V ) Md}i(SY ?
