Cook, Cudmore, Gutman, W. Helmstetter, Lail, Marcinkowski, Menezes, Murshid, Oluseyi, Patton, Perdigao, Polson, Ribeiro, Romans, Rusovici, Shaw (by proxy, Knoll), Shearer, Tankersly, Tenali, Tenga, Winkelmann; non-voting attendee: Dr. Marc Baarmand, Physics and Space Sciences President-elect Polson, standing in for Pres. Dwyer, called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m. A motion to approve the minutes of the last session was made and seconded, and the vote to do so was unanimous. As Dr. Dwyer had to be out of town, there was no Presidents Report. Committee Reports The Academic Policies Committee report was given by it chair, Senator Winkelmann, who stated that his stint with the Academic Affairs Committee was intended to be a one-time affair. He had met with that committee and pointed out the problem faculty have in de-enrolling students who have not passed the prerequisite for a course in which they are enrolled. This is a problem that Dr. Knoll and Dr. Taylor have written Registrar Young about, and Dr. Knoll commented that Ms. Young has been instructed to work out a procedure for this. Another matter Dr. Winkelmann spoke about to the Academic Affairs Committee was that it would good for faculty who are advisors to be informed how their advisees did academically; this could be done by having advisees grades sent by the Registrar to advisors. He will follow up on this with Registrar Young. A further concern he expressed to that committee was that of students showing up two or three weeks after the term has begun. The academic affairs council will investigate why this happens and how many students are doing this. A final matter Sen. Winkelmann discussed with the committee had to do with a problem with the Banner system in reporting the status of co-requisites accurately. Sen. Brenner of the Administrative Policies Committee announced that the Administrator Evaluations can be made online until the 18th of this month. A previous problem, owing to a security device to prevent evaluation of administrators more than once by an evaluator, is now fixed. The evaluation procedure is available at services.fit.edu/eval. Sen. Helmstetter announced that faculty excellence award dossiers would be due March 14th, the Monday after Spring Break, by 5:00 p.m. The Faculty Senate Scholarship Committee has chosen an awardee in Computer Science. He is 4.0 GPA student Tyler Donald Jackson. There was no Welfare Committee report. Old Business The resolution concerning the posting of agendas and minutes on Facforum for certain university committees was brought up for a vote. Be it resolved: It is requested that the following university committees post their agendas on Facforum before their meetings: the Curriculum Committee and the Graduate Council. It is requested that the following university committees post agendas before their meetings, and their minutes, on Facforum: the Academic Affairs Council, ACITC, the International Committee, IT, the Library Committee, the Parking Committee, and the Research Council. It passed unanimously. New Business The issue of faculty load forms was introduced, and the Adminis-trative Policies Committee will look into how these form are constituted. Sen. Winkelmann suggested that the deans be spoken with about this, and that Vice President for Academic Affairs Nelson be asked about them. Maternity Leave as an item on the agenda had been requested by Pres. Dwyer, and it was decided to wait until he could speak on this issue. Faculty Senate elections were next. Secretary Shearer was kept in that position by unanimous acclamation. A vote was then taken by secret ballot for President-elect. The candidates were Dr. Marc Baarmand of Physics and Space Sciences and Dr. Ronaldo Menezes of Computer Science. There were twenty-six votes, with Dr. Baarmand not voting since he isnt a senator, and votes by proxy in the cases of Sen. Shaw and Dr. Dwyer. Fifteen votes were for Dr. Baarmand, eleven for Dr. Menezes. The senate president for 2011-12 is Dr. Charles Polson of Biological Sciences, with Dr. Baarmand following him the next year. Discussion The matter of recent staff layoffs was discussed at length, with the outcome that the Faculty Senate Executive Committee should invite our Chief Operating Officer to its next meeting to consider ways the faculty might help alleviate the deficit that had brought about the layoffs. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Bob Shearer, Secretary PAGE PAGE 3 %&'();DFOTų|l]QE9-hFG,CJOJQJaJhlCJOJQJaJhuCJOJQJaJhAkCJOJQJaJhrg*hijCJOJQJaJhrg*hijCJOJQJ\aJhOheCJOJQJ\aJhijCJOJQJ\aJh1K;CJOJQJ\aJh:?CJOJQJ\aJ"hPHhPHCJH*OJQJ\aJhPHCJOJQJ\aJhAkCJOJQJ\aJh?c h?c 5CJOJQJaJhOhij5CJOJQJaJ'()x y z I wx\]`gd 9gdSc`gdeagdij`gdij$a$gd?c $a$gdijTV`cgh " ) 3 w x ͵ٝٝ͝ymamh\iCJOJQJaJhXPCJOJQJaJhfnCJOJQJaJhlCJOJQJaJh2CJOJQJaJhg8CJOJQJaJhijCJOJQJaJhQ1CJOJQJaJhPHCJOJQJaJhAkCJOJQJaJhFG,CJOJQJaJhrg*hijCJOJQJaJhVMCJOJQJaJ"x y H I Q W X 3 G V ; > p ƾ޾xppphhriOJQJhhOJQJhZ@OJQJheIOJQJh"$OJQJh"TOJQJh 9>*OJQJhSc>*OJQJhSchSc>*OJQJh3OJQJh 9OJQJh>LhOJQJh1)OJQJh .4OJQJhAkOJQJhyhijOJQJhrg*heCJOJQJaJ' Npx,.@AmY𥭥}ui`i`i`i`i`ih6H,6OJQJh.h6H,6OJQJh*!%OJQJh3xhScOJQJh3x>*OJQJhB>HOJQJh3xh3xH*OJQJh3xOJQJhZ@OJQJh"Th"TH*OJQJh"TOJQJh"$OJQJhobB*OJQJ^Jph!hobhobB*OJQJ^JphheIOJQJhobOJQJ%OZ[rst&'gd`gd6H,`gd*!%`gd3xgd3x`gd 9YZ[tbSiBCP]>R $%ļĴīĴĠ}y}y}y}yoio hri0Jjhri0JUhOjhOUh!wh!wOJQJh!wOJQJh6H,OJQJhhOJQJh>*OJQJhhOJQJh;pOJQJhOJQJhrOJQJhB>HOJQJh3x>*OJQJh3xOJQJh3x6OJQJh*!%6OJQJ)&'(3&`#$`gd!wgd!wgd6H,`gdgd%&()/0123567h!wh!wOJQJhOh0JmHnHujhri0JUhri hri0J 34567`gd!w/ 01h/ =!"#$% ^ 2 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~_HmH nH sH tH @`@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH N@N Heading 1$$@&a$>*B*OJQJphDA`D Default Paragraph FontViV Table Normal :V 44 la (k (No List e@ HTML Preformatted7 2( Px 4 #\'*.25@9!B*CJOJPJQJ^JaJph6U6 Hyperlink >*B*ph4 @4 Footer !.)@!.
