PLC Subcommittees

A subcommittee within the Parent Leadership Council (PLC) focuses on specific initiatives that support Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­’s mission, ensuring meaningful contributions from its members. These groups allow members to engage more deeply in areas aligned with their expertise and interests.​

Through these efforts, the Giving and Engagement group plays a vital role in enhancing the student experience through monetary and in-kind support.​

Subcommittee gatherings meet twice virtually before the full PLC gathers once a semester.​

The Workforce Development Subcommittee focuses on enhancing Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ students' career readiness and professional opportunities by strengthening partnerships between the university and industry leaders. ​

Key initiatives include:​

  • Expanding internship and job placement opportunities for students.​
  • Facilitating mentorship programs that connect students with working parents in industry to provide advice, coaching, tours, and shadowing experiences.​
  • Increasing industry participation at on-campus career fairs and digital platforms to broaden employment prospects.​
  • Organizing resume reviews and mock interviews to better prepare students for the job market.​

​This subcommittee plays a crucial role in preparing students for successful futures by fostering industry connections and career development programs.​

The Student Experience & Success Subcommittee is dedicated to enriching Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ students' academic and extracurricular lives while fostering a strong sense of community among families. This group collaborates with university leadership to ensure students have the resources and support needed to thrive.​

Key Focus Areas:​

  • Enhancing student experiences by providing feedback and innovative ideas for current and future academic and extracurricular offerings.​
  • Advocating for essential resources that support student health, wellness, and overall well-being.​
  • Improving student retention and graduation rates by identifying and addressing key challenges.​
  • Engaging parents and families in meaningful ways, including:​
    • Serving as Facebook moderators to foster community and provide helpful information.​
    • Assisting in planning and attending New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, and Panther Week events.​

Through collaboration and advocacy, this subcommittee plays a vital role in shaping a supportive and enriching environment for students and their families.​

The Giving and Engagement subcommittee fosters a culture of philanthropy within the parent community, ensuring Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ students access to essential resources and opportunities.​

Key Initiatives include:

  • Volunteering at signature university events to support student success and engagement.​
  • Securing in-kind donations for critical student needs, such as the campus food pantry and business attire closet.​
  • Encouraging a culture of philanthropy among parents through meaningful giving opportunities, including:​
    • Advocating for parents to become monthly donors to support student programs.​
    • Promoting support to the Student Emergency Fund & Student Clubs.​
    • Offering ways to leave a lasting legacy, such as brick dedications, Gleason Performing Arts Center seat sponsorships, and graduation flowers.​
